Collect your lunch as you board!

As I mentioned last week, Lufthansa was hit by a large industrial action this week, and although the airline was assuring people that flights would go ahead as planned thanks to a detailed plan of action, they didn’t really know what form the strike would take, and there was every chance there would be a great number of cancellations. In the end, the majority of flights went ahead as planned, with the main cancellations being national flights. The dispute has since been resolved, but there are still going to be flights affected over the next two weeks due to a backlog of maintenance checks, according to the airline. I had a reservation for a Dusseldorf-Wroclaw flight for this week, so I was able to see for myself how the strike was handled.

Lufthansa Strike - Update

The German airline Lufthansa is going to be hit by a second, much larger strike starting this Sunday (July 27th) at 10 PM. An overwhelming majority of members of the trade union ver.di, which represents 50,000 of Lufthansa’s ground and cabin crew, voted in favor of the industrial action. The exact details of the action have not been announced, and it is an open-ended strike. Lufthansa Strike

If you have any flights booked with Germany’s Lufthansa, keep your eye on the news over the coming weeks, as the airline is having to cancel flights due to industrial action. Pilots for the Lufthansa subsidiaries Eurowings and CityLines went on strike on Tuesday, and will stay out until midnight today, forcing the airline to cancel around a thousand domestic and short-haul flights.
