Lufthansa Strike - Update

Published by Travelling Blackbird at 6:35 pm under Travel News Edit This

The German airline Lufthansa is going to be hit by a second, much larger strike starting this Sunday (July 27th) at 10 PM. An overwhelming majority of members of the trade union ver.di, which represents 50,000 of Lufthansa’s ground and cabin crew, voted in favor of the industrial action. The exact details of the action have not been announced, and it is an open-ended strike. While Lufthansa has stated that they have plans in place that will allow most of their flights to go ahead, there are bound to be many disruptions.

If you have tickets for flights with Lufthansa in the coming weeks, keep your eye on announcements on their Current Travel Information page, which also has a link to the phone numbers you can call for further information. However, bear in mind that they probably won’t be able to give much information about Monday’s flights until more details of the form of the strike action are given. Their Arrivals and Departures page has a form allowing you to check the status of flights online by entering details about the flight, but it only gives information for the nearest four days.

I’m due to fly to Wroclaw with Lufthansa on Wednesday this week, so expect a first-hand report of how the airline is coping with the strike.

All the best, and have a great weekend.

Derek.

hopefully things will go well on Wednesday. I hope Lufthansa is able to function well during the strike. So many people are depending on them in the next few months. Oktoberfest is only two months away.

Oktoberfest! I hope they’ll sort it out sooner than that!

They seem to be doing very well: so far, the reports are that there have been no cancellations, and only a few short delays. Union officials say the effects will worsen as time goes on, and the cost to the airline has certainly been high.
